This Sunday, May 12th, marks the beginning of the 14th annual Women’s Health Week, a week-long health observance organized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health.  The purpose of this week is to bring to the light the importance of making health a priority and to encourage women to take the necessary steps to improve their physical and mental health.

As part of Women’s Health Week, Monday, May 13th is the 11th annual National Women’s Checkup Day, a nationwide effort coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health to encourage women to receive checkups and to do so on a regular basis. Routine screenings, such as mammograms and Pap tests, are extremely important to a women’s health and can detect diseases early, making them easier to treat. Regular checkups can help women to lower their risk of health conditions and disease.

As the primary caregiver in many households, it is not common to see women put the health of their spouses, partners and children before their own. This week serves a very important reminder that we must support the women we know and love and ensure they are living the healthiest life possible. To learn more about Women’s Health Week, visit and be sure to encourage the women in your life to take the National Women’s Checkup Day Pledge!
